POTENTIAL USE:

Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii is applying for $35 million in HUD HOPE VI funds for the revitalization of Kuhio Park Terrace, a public housing community.  Objectives of the project include developing a safe, clean, and secure neighborhood, promoting economic and housing diversity, and providing economic, educational, and social programs and opportunities for residents and the surrounding community.  The revitalization will replace the 614-unit project with a mixture of low and mid-rise apartments and single family dwellings for homeownership and rent.  The project centerpiece will be a 50,000-square foot Community Resource Center that will provide residents with services such as childcare, teen programs, job training, welfare-to-work programs, and family education.  The center is scheduled for completion by August 2002.
