Catherine Awakuni was appointed as Executive Director of the Division of Consumer Advocacy by Mark E. Recktenwald, then-Director of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, effective September 18, 2006.  Prior to her appointment, Ms. Awakuni was legal counsel to the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission since 2002 and in private law practice since 1999.  Ms. Awakuni also serves as Vice Chair of the State's Wireless Enhanced 911 Board, and is a member of the Commission's One Call Center Advisory Committee. 

Ms. Awakuni earned a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
