Current HDC Activities

  • Update the Hawaii Drought Plan, Phase 1

  • Continue Drought Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and GIS Mapping Project

  • Continue participation in the State Hazard Mitigation Forum

  • Develop DLNR Prototype State Agency Water Conservation Plan

Planned HDC Activities
  • Establish County/Local Drought Committees

  • Increase drought monitoring and dissemination of information to the public and affected agencies

  • Develop and implement proactive drought mitigation efforts

  • Promote greater statewide awareness of drought and water conservation

Past Federal Drought Assistance
Bureau of Reclamation Assistance:
  • From 1998 through 2000, technical assistance was provided to the State for drought mitigation planning.

  • In 2001, approximately $210,000 in emergency drought assistance was provided for the islands of Oahu, Molokai, and Hawaii.

  • Currently providing $50,000 for DLNR water conservation planning and $50,000 for required revisions and updating of the Hawaii Drought Plan.

FEMA Assistance:
  • Currently providing (through State Civil Defense Division) $75,000 (3:1 cost share) for Drought Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and GIS Mapping.
