SHPD ADOPTION PROGRAM

The SHPD Architecture Branch frequently comes across features which once adorned Hawai`i's historic buildings. Doors, lighting fixtures, decorative glass, wood accents; each item has a unique story to tell. Usually, these items are kept by SHPD for educational purposes. However, SHPD sometimes acquires features better suited for display in a public place rather than storage... and offers them for adoption.

Two beautiful sets of doors, formerly from the Mabel Smyth Building in Honolulu, are available. For a detailed picture, please click on the thumbnail images.

Large, wooden double doors, each 119" x 44" x 1-3/4" thick.

There are some simple conditions for adopting the doors. Selection of recipient(s) is based on the following criteria:

  1. public exposure
  2. appropriateness of exposure
  3. viability of installation

Recipients will be responsible for picking up and transporting items. SHPD reserves the right to reclaim items if they are not being used or are removed from display. If interested in adopting one or all of these features, please call the SHPD Architecture Branch at (808) 692-8015 or contact us by e-mail:
