Department of Transportation is responsible to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain State facilities in all modes of transportation, including air, water, and land. Coordination with other State, County, and Federal programs is maintained in order to achieve the objective.

New International Arrivals Corrider Being Constructed at Honolulu International Airport
Construction is underway on a new International Arrivals Sterile Corridor at Honolulu International Airport. The corridor, located on the third level of the ‘Ewa Concourse, will provide an easy, secure route to the Federal Inspection Services (FIS) area for arriving international passengers who deplane from Gates 26 through 34.

Economy parking lot at Honolulu International Airport temporarily closing
The state Department of Transportation is advising travelers that the Honolulu International Airport Economy Parking Lot at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive will be closing temporarily effective Monday, October 6, 2008, due to the decrease in parking demand. Ampco Parking Systems will not allow vehicles to park in the Economy Lot if a traveler’s return flight is after October 5th, as all vehicles must be picked up by 12:00 midnight on October 5th.

Four-Lane Haleakala Highway To Ease Traffic Between Kahului And Upcountry Maui
The state Department of Transportation and Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. are celebrating the completion of the Haleakala Highway Widening Project. The $31.75 million project will help increase traffic capacity along the primary corridor that connects Kahului to upcountry Maui. The work involved widening a 5.5-mile stretch from a three-lane to a four-lane divided highway from Hana Highway to Pukalani Bypass Road.

Commercial Driver License Office In Halawa Reopens On October 6
The Commercial Driver License (CDL) office, temporarily located at City Square, 1199 Dillingham Boulevard, will close on Friday, October 3, to prepare for its move back to original Halawa location. Recognizing National Child Passenger Safety Week September 21-27, 2008
National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 21- 27) is an annual campaign aimed to bring public awareness to the importance of properly securing all children in appropriate child safety seats, booster seats, or seat belts. The state Department of Transportation (DOT) would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers of the new child passenger restraint law that went into effect last year.
