Aloha! Welcome to our page dedicated to those 55 years and above.
We received a grant in late 2003 from the Friends of Kaneohe
Library and
the Friends of the Library of Hawaii to establish a Seniors Outreach
Project. The Project plans to offer the following to our elders:
- Introduction to the Hawaii State Public Library System's
(HSPLS) Public Access Catalog (PAC), electronic full text databases,
and the World Wide Web (1:1) -- on site or in the library
- Assistance in making online requests for materials using the PAC,
with delivery of the materials to those who cannot come to the library
- Assistance in establishing free E-mail Accounts
- Regular visits by library staff to Retirement Homes and Adult
Care Homes in the greater Kaneohe area (as far north as Punaluu)
- More Large Print Books
- Programs (The first program, featuring local nonagenarian author
and health enthusiast, Carolyn Choy, was held on August 1, 2004
at 1:00 PM. There were 42 interested people in attendance.) Ms.
Choy has appeared two more times since then before appreciative
audiences
- Encouragement of field trips/excursions to the libraries
The only requirement is a valid HSPLS Library Card. While we are
focusing on a specific geographic region, all are welcome to take the
classes -- by appointment only, please. Visit beautiful Windward
Oahu.
Mahalo for your use and support of public libraries.
